Fly by light aircraft to Sea Lion Island — the Falklands' premier wildlife destination — to witness Southern elephant seals, sea lions, five penguin species, and nesting black-browed albatross on a single pristine island. The ultimate Falklands wildlife day.
What to expect
A short transfer takes you to Stanley Airport where you board a FIGAS Islander aircraft for the flight south over tussac grass islands and sapphire channels. Landing on the grass airstrip, a lodge guide meets you for a full circuit of the island — elephant seals hauled out by the hundred on kelp-strewn beaches, Rockhopper, Magellanic, Gentoo, King, and Macaroni penguins within walking distance of each other, and black-browed albatross gliding on permanent six-foot wingspans overhead. Lunch at the Sea Lion Island Lodge is included. The return flight completes an utterly extraordinary day at the southern edge of the world.
Good to know
This excursion requires early coordination with FIGAS (falklandislands.com) and Sea Lion Island Lodge well before your cruise departs — flight seats are very limited. Weather can delay small aircraft; confirm all-aboard time with your ship and allow a generous buffer. Not suitable for guests with severe mobility limitations.
