Scale the legendary 1,610-ft ridge above Pago Pago Harbour on a guided hike through lush rainforest, then stand on the summit where the entire drowned-volcano bay unfolds beneath you. One of the South Pacific's most dramatic natural viewpoints — earned, not driven to.
What to expect
Your guide meets you dockside and transfers you to the National Park trailhead. The ascent winds through dense tropical rainforest alive with fruit bats and endemic birds. At the summit, the full sweep of Pago Pago Harbour — one of the deepest natural harbours in the Pacific — rewards every step. Descent follows the same ridge with stops to observe native flora and sweeping coastal panoramas.
Good to know
The hike takes approx. 3–4 hours round-trip; wear sturdy trail shoes and bring water. Pre-book directly via the Pocket Guide site as guide slots are limited. Allow a 90-min buffer before all-aboard given the trailhead is 20 mins from the pier.
