A crescent of calm, reef-sheltered water just 30 km east of the port — Boca Chica's shallow turquoise lagoon is the beach the locals have claimed for generations. Reserve a premium beach club section for a genuinely unhurried Caribbean afternoon.
What to expect
The 45-minute drive east takes you through Santo Domingo's verdant outskirts before arriving at Boca Chica's famous strip of powder sand. Premium beach club sun-loungers face a lagoon so shallow you can wade 200 metres from shore and still feel the sand underfoot. Local vendors bring fresh coconuts, rum punches and grilled fish right to your chair. Snorkel gear rental is available on the beach. The atmosphere is joyful and authentically Dominican — merengue floats across the water from open-air restaurants lining the shore.
Good to know
Allow roughly 3–4 hours at the beach including transfers; depart the port no later than 9 a.m. to secure a full afternoon before needing to return. Confirm your all-aboard and build in 60 min for the return drive. Bring reef-safe sunscreen — the coral here is pristine and worth preserving.
