Plunge into the legendary turquoise waters at the base of Pinnacle Rock for an encounter with Galápagos penguins — the only penguin species found north of the equator — alongside sea turtles, golden rays, and hammerhead sharks in one of the world's great snorkel sites.
What to expect
A nimble, fast-transfer panga whisks your small group (maximum 10 guests) directly to the sheltered south beach at Bartolomé, where Galápagos penguins porpoise through the shallows just metres from snorkellers. The marine naturalist guides you through coral gardens alive with parrotfish, Moorish idols, and Pacific seahorses before surfacing at Pinnacle Rock itself for dramatic above-water photography. The water temperature hovers around 22°C; full wetsuits are provided. The 90-minute snorkel session is unhurried, with ample surface time for photos and wildlife observation.
Good to know
Confirm the tour includes wetsuit rental (essential even in warm season). Arrive at the operator's Puerto Ayora office by 6:30 am for the earliest departure, ensuring maximum wildlife activity before midday. Motion-sickness medication is recommended for sensitive travellers on the open-water transfer.
