Visit Haus am Strom, the architecturally stunning visitor pavilion perched above the Danube at the Jochenstein hydropower station, where an immersive exhibition on river ecology, energy and the living landscape of the Upper Danube commands panoramic views over the Austria-Germany border.
What to expect
Designed by prize-winning Austrian architects, the building itself is a destination — a cantilevered glass-and-steel form hovering above the river like a statement of intent. Inside, interactive exhibits explore the Danube's ecosystem, migration patterns of fish and birds, and the engineering marvel of the Jochenstein dam. The rooftop observation deck frames the forest-covered granite hills of the Bohemian Massif in every direction. A knowledgeable local guide brings the river's story to life with personal anecdote and ecological depth.
