Altamira Caves & Santillana del Mar: Spain's Prehistoric Masterpiece

Descend into the Neolithic wonder of Altamira — the 'Sistine Chapel of prehistory' — then wander the cobbled perfection of Santillana del Mar, Spain's most beautiful medieval village. A private half-day that spans 15,000 years of human story.

What to expect

Your private guide meets you at the Santander cruise pier and drives 30 minutes west to the Altamira Neocave, where bison, deer and hands painted 15,000 years ago glow overhead in near-perfect replica. You then stroll Santillana del Mar's honey-stone streets, unchanged since the 15th century, ending at a private tasting of Cantabrian cheeses in a local creamery. Back aboard with time to spare.

Good to know

Pre-book the Neocave timed entry at culturaydeporte.gob.es well in advance — slots sell out. Santillana del Mar is 30 min from Santander; allow 4–5 hours total. Confirm all-aboard time and build in a 60-min buffer.
