Step into Japan's Meiji and Taisho golden age at Moji Port's immaculately preserved retro district — elegant customs houses, former consulates, and atmospheric waterfront promenades that feel utterly cinematic.
What to expect
The Mojiko Retro district is one of Japan's finest Meiji-era townscapes, where red-brick customs buildings, an elegant 1914 railway station, and art-nouveau consulates cluster along a cinematic harbour promenade. Your volunteer expert guide brings the architecture to life with stories of foreign merchants, treaty ports, and the industrial ambitions of明治 Japan. Hop aboard the retro-styled sightseeing train, sip coffee in a century-old warehouse café, and photograph the Kanmon Strait with Honshu shimmering in the distance. The atmosphere is utterly unlike anything else in Kyushu.
