What to expect
Your driver-guide collects you dockside in a private 4x4 and heads immediately into the barren volcanic interior, stopping at dramatic ridge-top miradors before ascending Monte Verde, the island's highest point. On clear days you can see the neighbouring island of Santo Antão floating on the horizon. The route descends through the bohemian streets of Mindelo before depositing you back at the port with time to spare.
Good to know
Book at least 72 hours in advance by WhatsApp or email; confirm all-aboard time with the ship and allow a 30-minute buffer. No physical demands on the 4x4 route, though the short summit walk is uneven underfoot. Bring sunscreen, a light layer for the summit, and cash in CVE or EUR for tips.
