Lace up crampons and step onto Folgefonna — mainland Norway's third-largest glacier — with a certified glacier guide. Ancient blue ice, crevasse fields and volcanic rock create one of the most otherworldly landscapes in Europe.
What to expect
A scenic 45-minute transfer from Odda winds up through the Folgefonnhalvøya National Park before you arrive at the glacier's edge. Your guide fits the group with crampons and delivers a briefing on glacier safety and formation. On the ice, you walk through sculpted blue channels and past moulins (glacier mills) while learning about the 2,000-year-old ice sheet. On a clear day the views down to the Hardangerfjord are extraordinary.
Good to know
Allow 5–6 hours total including transfer — check your all-aboard time. The glacier is accessible from late May to September. Sturdy waterproof footwear and warm layers essential; crampons and safety equipment provided. Book directly with Folgefonna; group sizes are capped for safety.
