What to expect
Step into your own open chairlift cabin and drift gently upward through rows of Riesling vines clinging to steep slate hillsides. At the summit plateau, the Rhine reveals its famous four-lake illusion — a breathtaking sweep of silver water, forested bluffs, and distant castle towers. A terrace restaurant at the top serves local wines and hearty Palatinate cuisine with that view as backdrop. The descent is equally serene, the gorge spread below you in glorious relief.
Good to know
The chairlift base station is a 10-minute walk from the Boppard ship berth. Operating season: late March to early November, 10:00–17:30 (closed in heavy rain/high winds — check conditions on the day). Return journey on foot via the Rheinsteig trail (45 min) is a superb option for fit travelers. Arrive early to beat midday queues.
