Pedal the legendary Danube Cycle Path through the UNESCO Wachau Valley — past terraced vineyards, apricot orchards, and medieval villages — on a curated e-bike or road-bike half-day from Melk dock. One of Europe's great cycling journeys.
What to expect
The EuroVelo 6 Danube Cycle Path is flat, beautifully maintained, and winds directly along the riverbank from Melk toward Spitz and Dürnstein — one of the most scenic stretches in all of Europe. Premium e-bikes eliminate any fitness concerns while keeping the journey effortless and joyful. Vineyards cascade down to the path, and villages like Schönbühel offer castle-topped riverside stops. A curated guided half-day takes you to the best lookout points and a wine pause before returning to Melk.
Good to know
Dock-side or town-centre bike hire is available and straightforward. For the guided experience, pre-book with a local operator. The Melk-to-Dürnstein section (approx. 30 km one way) is ideal for a half-day; arrange a return transfer or e-bike back. Cycling season is April–October. Wear layers — river valley mornings can be cool even in summer.
