Ascend Bodø's iconic home mountain in the glow of the Midnight Sun, reaching a panoramic Arctic summit where the sun hovers above the horizon at midnight, painting fjords, islands and the Lofoten Wall in gold.
What to expect
The trail rises steeply through birch scrub and Arctic heather before opening onto bare rock with 360-degree views of the Vestfjorden and the jagged Lofoten peaks on the horizon. Your guide points out Arctic flora, nesting birds and, in the right season, reindeer. At the summit, the Midnight Sun sits just above the sea in a blaze of amber — one of the most photographed moments in Norwegian travel. The descent follows a different ridge, extending the scenery.
Good to know
Midnight Sun season runs roughly 4 June – 8 July; outside those dates this is an equally dramatic late-evening golden-hour hike. Rønvikfjellet is 5 km from the port — a short taxi ride. Round trip takes 3–4 hours; sturdy hiking boots and layered clothing essential. Confirm exact all-aboard time and buffer 90 minutes.
