Step ashore on one of Britain's most treasured wildlife sanctuaries and spend a full day among 10,000+ Atlantic Puffins nesting just inches from your feet. Skomer's puffins are famously unafraid of humans — a once-in-a-lifetime encounter on a protected island.
What to expect
A 20-minute Dale Princess ferry crossing from Martin's Haven lands you on Skomer, a National Nature Reserve and SSSI. From May to July the clifftops and rabbit-warren slopes are alive with Atlantic Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, and Manx Shearwaters. Self-guided walking trails circumnavigate the island's dramatic headlands, prehistoric standing stones, and seal-fringed coves. The island warden team is on hand throughout to answer questions and point out rare sightings.
Good to know
Boats depart Martin's Haven (Pembrokeshire) at 10:00, 11:00 & 12:00; all-aboard time for cruise passengers should be checked carefully — allow 5–6 hours minimum. Tickets sell out weeks in advance; book online the moment dates open. Dress in layers; Atlantic weather changes fast. Bring binoculars and a packed lunch — no café on the island.
