Cruise to the Treshnish Isles and Staffa in one epic voyage, watching Atlantic puffins waddle within arm's reach on Lunga and seals haul out by the hundred on the rocky skerries. A genuine once-in-a-lifetime wildlife immersion.
What to expect
Departing from Ulva Ferry on the west coast of Mull, your small expedition vessel threads through the Inner Hebrides toward the Treshnish archipelago. On Lunga, Atlantic puffins nest in burrows just metres from the path and show almost no fear of quiet visitors — photographers will be in heaven. Grey seals loll on the foreshore while guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes wheel overhead. The boat then makes for Staffa, where you disembark to explore Fingal's Cave and the basalt plateau before the return crossing.
Good to know
The Treshnish plus Staffa combined trip runs May through August (prime puffin season). Wear layers — wind on the open water is brisk even in July. Binoculars essential; a telephoto lens is highly recommended. Book the earliest sailing to maximise island time vs your all-aboard.
