At 986 m, Mount Agou is the highest peak in Togo — and on a clear day the view stretches to Ghana, Bénin, and the Atlantic. Combine the summit trek with a walk through Kpalimé's butterfly-rich rainforest on this exhilarating private full-day expedition inland from Lomé.
What to expect
Your private 4x4 departs Lomé at first light for the 120 km drive through undulating cocoa and coffee plantations to Kpalimé, Togo's craft and nature capital. A walking tour of the town's famous butterfly sanctuary and artisan workshops precedes the ascent of Mount Agou via forest trail. The trek to the summit takes approximately 90 minutes each way through cool, dense Afromontane vegetation — your guide identifies medicinal plants and bird species en route. At the summit, a panorama of four countries rewards the effort; a cold local refreshment at a hillside café marks the descent.
Good to know
This is a full-day excursion — depart no later than 7:00 am to return before all-aboard. Sturdy closed-toe shoes and a light rain jacket are essential.
