Cast lines into the crystal-clear waters of Ammassalik Fjord aboard a local fishing boat, haul up Atlantic cod with the icebergs as your backdrop, then feast on your fresh catch prepared ashore — the most delicious way to connect with Tasiilaq's seafaring soul.
What to expect
Depart Tasiilaq harbour on a small traditional fishing vessel and motor into the mirror-flat waters of Ammassalik Fjord, surrounded by a ring of mountains and floating ice. Your guide hands you a handline — the method locals have used for generations — and within minutes the cod are biting. The deep, cold, nutrient-rich water produces exceptionally firm, sweet-fleshed fish. After the morning session, head ashore where your catch is expertly cooked — grilled or pan-fried with Arctic herbs — and enjoyed alongside local rye bread and perhaps a warming cup of Greenlandic tea. It is as simple and as extraordinary as food gets.
