Escape the crowds on a private 4WD expedition through Madeira's dramatic interior — ancient laurel forest, secret levada paths, clifftop villages, and viewpoints that no coach tour can reach.
What to expect
Your guide collects you dockside in an open-top 4WD and heads north through the UNESCO-listed Laurisilva forest — a primeval laurel jungle that has survived since the Tertiary era and drips with ferns and mosses. Stops include the vertiginous Balcões viewpoint, a walk along an irrigation levada channel through the mountains, the colourful terraced village of Santana, and the dramatic sea cliffs at Ponta de São Lourenço. Lunch is at a local quinta restaurant, wine included. Return to port by 17:30.
