Royal Observatory Greenwich: Meridian Line & Planetarium

Stand astride the Prime Meridian of the World atop Greenwich Hill, explore Flamsteed House, and gaze through the Great Equatorial Telescope. This is the place where time itself was standardised — utterly irreplaceable.

What to expect

Climb the hill to the iconic red Time Ball and cross the brass Meridian Line at longitude 0°. Step inside Wren-designed Flamsteed House and the Octagon Room, unchanged since 1676. The state-of-the-art Peter Harrison Planetarium offers a breathtaking immersive sky show. On a clear day, panoramic views across the Thames to Canary Wharf and the City of London are simply spectacular.

Good to know

Pre-book timed-entry tickets online to avoid queues; the Observatory is a 15-minute uphill walk from the pier or a short cab ride. All-aboard times for Greenwich are typically generous — allow 3 hours minimum. The Day Pass bundles the Cutty Sark for maximum value.
