The most prestigious appellation in the Rhône Valley sits 18 km from Avignon's walls — a landscape of ancient galets roulés (rounded river stones) producing some of France's most celebrated reds. Taste them at source, with a sommelier guide, in the vineyards themselves.
What to expect
Your private guide collects you in a chauffeured vehicle and drives through the vines to two or three carefully chosen estates — ranging from historic family domaines to biodynamic boutique producers. At each, the winemaker or estate director hosts a sit-down tasting of four to six wines paired with local charcuterie and cheese. The ruined papal summer castle crowning the village adds a photogenic medieval flourish. The return to Avignon passes through the gorgeous Rhône valley light of late afternoon.
Good to know
Half-day format (approx. 4–5 hrs) fits comfortably before most all-aboard times. Wine purchases can be arranged and shipped. Pre-booking with A la Française well in advance is essential for private access to top estates.
