Trek jungle trails to the crater rim of Garove's dormant volcano for a breathtaking 360° panorama over the Bismarck Sea, caldera bay, and Witu Island chain — one of Papua New Guinea's most dramatic and least-visited vantage points.
What to expect
The trail begins at the beach and immediately enters dense tropical rainforest, rising steeply through giant ferns and strangler figs. Your guide points out endemic orchids, bird-of-paradise calls overhead, and unusual volcanic rock formations. The final approach opens to exposed ridge, and the view — caldera bay directly below, open Pacific beyond — is genuinely jaw-dropping. Descent follows an alternate jungle path.
