Step off the tender and into the clearest water in the Indian Ocean — the coral garden directly off Flying Fish Cove is consistently rated among the finest beach snorkelling on the planet, with staghorn coral, reef fish, and sea turtles within metres of shore.
What to expect
Your guide outfits you with high-quality mask, fins, and wetsuit if desired, then leads you into the sheltered cove where visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. Coral formations rise in extraordinary towers and arches, home to parrotfish, lionfish, moray eels, and clouds of tropical reef fish. Green sea turtles are frequently encountered grazing on the coral — unconcerned by the presence of respectful snorkellers. The water is warm, the currents gentle in the cove, and the experience is accessible to all levels of swimmer. Afterwards, rinse off at the shore and explore the cove's rocky fringes for land crabs.
Good to know
Flying Fish Cove is directly accessible from the tender landing point — no transfer required. The cove is sheltered and suitable for non-swimmers with a guide, but ocean swell can affect conditions in the wet season. Bring a reef-safe sunscreen and an underwater camera or housing — the photography here is exceptional. Confirm conditions with your operator on the morning of your visit.
