Climb 366 spiral stone steps to the summit of Bruges' medieval Belfry for a jaw-dropping 360° panorama of rooftops, canals, and the Flemish countryside stretching to the sea.
What to expect
The 13th-century Belfort dominates the Markt square with theatrical authority. Inside, you wind past the medieval treasury and the giant carillon of 47 bells before emerging onto the open platform high above the city. The view sweeps over chocolate-box gabled rooftops, the glittering canal web, and on clear days all the way to the North Sea. The descent returns you through the bell-ringing chamber for an unexpected encounter with the carillonneur at work.
Good to know
Access is timed; book the first slot of the day online to beat crowds. Wear comfortable shoes — the stairs are steep and narrow. Allow 1–1.5 hrs total. The Markt is a 5-min walk from any canal-boat landing.
