Flor de Caña is one of the world's most decorated rums — 130 years old, carbon-neutral, and naturally aged without additives at the foot of San Cristóbal volcano. A private masterclass inside the distillery is one of Nicaragua's most exclusive, least-known experiences.
What to expect
The Flor de Caña plant sits in Chichigalpa, a 30-minute drive from Corinto — close enough to be unhurried. Your guide walks you through the sugarcane pressing, copper pot stills, and cathedral-like barrel warehouses where volcanic heat does the ageing work. The seated tasting pairs four expressions — 7, 12, 18, and 25 year — with local cacao and slow-roasted plantain. You leave with a bottle of your choice at distillery price and a Flor de Caña branded souvenir glass.
Good to know
Duration approx. 4–5 hours. Must be 18+. Distillery is indoors and shaded — comfortable in Nicaragua's heat. Pre-book at least 72 hours ahead as private distillery access is limited. A shorter excursion, leaving maximum afternoon leisure time aboard.
