Drift over Manta Sandy, one of Raja Ampat's most reliable manta ray cleaning stations, where oceanic mantas glide in lazy spirals just metres beneath the surface. A private boat and expert guide deliver a front-row encounter with these gentle giants.
What to expect
Your skilled skipper reads the currents to position you perfectly at the cleaning station. Reef mantas with wingspans up to 4 metres rise from the blue to have parasites cleaned by wrasse, entirely indifferent to careful snorkellers. Your marine biologist-trained guide briefs you on behaviour and etiquette beforehand, ensuring a respectful, unhurried experience. Afterwards, the boat moves to a nearby coral garden for a second snorkel among Napoleon wrasse, pygmy seahorses, and clouds of anthias.
Good to know
Mantas are most reliably present during the southern monsoon (Oct–Apr). This site is approximately 45 minutes by speedboat from Yenwaupnor. Bring a rash guard and reef-safe sunscreen. Marine park fee must be paid if not already purchased. Confirm all-aboard time allows a 5-hour window.
