Sawandarek Jetty Night Dive & Reef Sunset

Descend beneath Sawandarek Jetty — literally steps from Mansuar's shore — for one of Raja Ampat's most celebrated muck and macro dives, then surface to watch the equatorial sun melt into the Dampier Strait in a blaze of gold.

What to expect

Sawandarek Jetty's pilings are encrusted with soft corals in every colour of the spectrum, home to pygmy seahorses, frogfish, and flamboyant cuttlefish that emerge as dusk approaches. Your marine-biologist guide narrates the macro world with quiet expertise, using a slate to point out camouflaged creatures you would otherwise swim past. As you surface, the Arfak Mountains of West Papua glow amber across the strait, and the resort's deck is the ideal perch to relive the dive over local Papuan coffee. A post-dive briefing on the biodiversity you witnessed rounds out an intellectually as well as visually rich afternoon.

Good to know

Pre-book dives directly with Raja Ampat Biodiversity Eco Resort; they can arrange a day-guest package. A valid dive certification is required. Night or late-afternoon dives suit the end of a port day — ideal if your ship has a generous all-aboard time. Marine Park Permit required; the resort can assist with purchase.
