AquaRio is a solid, modern aquarium with a huge central tank full of sharks, rays, and schools of fish that genuinely impresses most visitors. Expect a clean, well-organized space with about 350 species and over 5,000 animals. The main tunnel and the shark exhibit are the clear highlights. It's educational without being stuffy, and the lighting and viewing areas are better than most South American aquariums. However, it's still an aquarium — after 90 minutes you've basically seen it all. Don't expect it to fill an entire day.

Best time to visit is weekdays right when it opens (usually around 9-10am) to avoid school groups and crowds. The dry season (May to October) is slightly more comfortable for combining it with other activities, but the aquarium itself is indoors and climate-controlled so weather isn't critical. Expect to pay around $35-55 for a standard ticket. Adding a guided tour or transfer bumps it to $80-130 per person; private options start much higher.

Honest tips: Get the basic ticket and do a self-guided visit — the audio guide or signage is enough.
