An ATV jungle tour typically lasts 3–5 hours and mixes bumpy off-road riding through scrubby jungle with a few stops. You’ll drive a two-person ATV (or solo if you pay extra), get covered in mud, then usually do a short zipline, swim in a cenote, and end with a basic lunch and tequila shot. The driving itself is the main event—expect lots of throttle, dust or mud depending on recent rain, and guides who keep the group moving at a decent pace. It’s fun if you like getting dirty and mildly adventurous, but it’s not a deep nature experience. The jungle is mostly secondary growth, not pristine rainforest.
Best time is December through April when it’s drier and slightly cooler. Summer and early fall are hotter, rainier, and the trails get sloppy. Expect to pay around $80–$150 per person depending on group size, whether you drive solo, and what’s bundled (ziplines and cenote usually push it toward the higher end). Private tours or hotel pickup add more.
Tip: Choose the smaller-group morning tour if possible—fewer people, less waiting, and you avoid the hottest part of the day. Skip the packages that cram in horseback riding unless you really want it; they make the day too long and the animals often look tired. Bring a bandana or buff for dust, wear closed shoes that can get ruined, and don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen for the cenote swim.
