Biking Old San Juan is a solid half-day activity if you like seeing the city at a relaxed pace instead of sweating through crowds on foot. Expect an easy, mostly flat ride on vintage-style bikes that are heavier than modern ones but perfectly fine. You’ll ride along the coast from Condado into the old city, stopping at key spots like the forts, colorful streets, and the city walls. Guides keep groups small and move at a casual speed; it’s more about enjoying the views and hearing some history than getting a workout. The whole thing usually lasts 2.5–3.5 hours including a few photo and water breaks.
Best time is December through April when it’s drier and temperatures are slightly cooler. June to November brings more heat, humidity, and a real chance of afternoon showers. Expect to pay around $45–75 per person for a small-group tour including bike, helmet, and water. Private tours run higher.
Tip: Choose the tours that start in Condado and ride into Old San Juan rather than ones that stay entirely inside the old city — you get a much nicer perspective and fewer stoplights. Skip any add-on “food tour” combo unless you know the operator is strong on both; most are average at best. Bring a small backpack with sunscreen and a hat — the sun reflects hard off the water and pavement.
