The Guadalupe River Trail is a paved, mostly flat path that runs for about 10 miles from downtown San Jose south toward the airport and beyond. Expect a mix of pleasant river views, some urban noise, and decent birdwatching, but don't picture a remote nature escape. Parts feel surprisingly green for the middle of Silicon Valley; other stretches run right beside highways or office parks. The ride itself is easy for most fitness levels, though you'll share the path with joggers, families, and the occasional e-scooter. In summer it can be brutally hot with almost no shade, and after heavy winter rains the trail sometimes closes due to flooding.
Best time to go is spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) when temperatures are mild. Expect to pay around $25-45 for a half-day bike rental including helmet and lock; guided group rides usually run $80-130 per person. Bring your own water and sunscreen. One solid tip: start from the downtown end near SAP Center and ride south; the northern section is the nicest. Skip trying to combine this with a winery tour or expecting perfect Instagram scenery; it's better as a casual morning activity than a full-day highlight.
