Is The Tech Museum in San Jose Worth It?

The Tech Interactive is a large, loud, hands-on science museum aimed squarely at families and curious kids. Expect big exhibit halls full of interactive stations covering robotics, genetics, coding, and basic physics. Most visitors spend 2–3 hours there. It’s genuinely engaging if you like touching and experimenting, but it can feel chaotic on weekends when school groups descend. The building itself is modern and centrally located downtown, so it pairs easily with a walk around San Jose.

Best time to visit is weekday mornings during the school year; summers and weekends get crowded and noisy. Expect to pay around $25–40 per adult and $15–25 per child, with parking or rideshare adding another $15–25 depending on where you stay. Annual pass holders or bundled tickets can bring the per-person cost down if you plan to return.

Tip: Head straight for the robotics and maker labs first—they’re the strongest parts. Skip the smaller temporary exhibits unless something specific catches your eye; they’re often underwhelming compared to the permanent hands-on floors. Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll be on your feet the whole time.
