Biking Lisbon means mixing flat riverfront paths with some proper hills – unless you get an e-bike, which most tours now offer. Expect to cover 10-15 km over 3-4 hours, rolling through Alfama's steep cobbles, past the river, and into LX Factory or Belém. The views are excellent but the traffic can be chaotic and the cobbles brutal on your wrists. It's a solid way to see more ground than walking while avoiding the worst of the summer heat if you go early.
Best time is spring (March-May) or autumn (September-October). Summers are brutally hot and crowded; winter can be rainy and windy. Expect to pay around €35-65 per person depending on whether it's a basic pedal bike, e-bike, or small-group tour with snacks included. Private tours push toward the higher end.
Tip: book an e-bike tour if you don't cycle regularly – the hills are no joke and you'll enjoy it instead of suffering. Skip the big group tours that stop at every viewpoint; smaller ones (under 8 people) let you actually move at a decent pace and ask questions. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes that grip well on uneven surfaces.
