A typical Dubrovnik boat cruise takes you along the coast or to nearby islands with stops for swimming in clear water. Expect 4–8 hours on the water, basic lunch or snacks, and a lot of sun. The smaller private or semi-private boats (8–12 people) give you more space and flexibility; larger shared ones can feel crowded once everyone starts drinking. The scenery is genuinely impressive – steep rocky islands, old villages, and that electric blue sea – but it’s a busy route. You won’t be alone unless you pay for a private skipper.
Best time is late May–early June or September–early October. July and August are hot, crowded, and the water tours sell out. Expect to pay around €45–70 for a half-day group cruise and €90–160 per person for a full-day island-hopping trip with lunch. Private boats for 4–6 people start around €400–650 for the day. Those numbers include fuel and basic drinks but not always premium food or open bar.
Pick a morning departure to avoid the worst afternoon wind and crowds. Skip the cheapest big-party boats if you want to actually swim and relax – they’re basically floating bars. Go for something with decent shade, a toilet, and a route that includes at least one quiet swimming spot away from the main cruise traffic.
