Should You Take a Boat Trip in Casablanca?

A boat trip in Casablanca usually means either a short coastal spin around the harbor and mosque or a longer ride up the Bouregreg River toward Rabat. Expect views of the Hassan II Mosque from the water, the industrial port, and sometimes a mix of fishing boats and modern yachts. The river option feels calmer and more scenic once you leave the ocean, while pure sea trips can be breezy and wavy. Most last 1–3 hours; longer day trips to Tangier exist but are basically mini-cruises. It's a pleasant, low-key activity rather than a thrill ride.

Best time is spring (March–May) or fall (September–November) when the Atlantic isn't too rough and temperatures are comfortable. Summer can be hot and crowded; winter brings bigger swells that sometimes cancel trips. Expect to pay around $40–90 per person for a standard group tour; private boats for 4–6 people run $250–600 depending on length and whether food or sunset timing is included.

Pick a late-afternoon or sunset departure if you can — the light on the mosque is worth it. Skip the ones that promise swimming or fishing unless you're going much further south; near Casablanca the water isn't great for either. Bring a jacket even in summer; the wind on the water is stronger than you think.
