Buggy Adventures in Aruba: Worth It?

Buggy tours in Aruba are a fun but bumpy way to see the island's rugged northeast coast. Expect to spend 2–4 hours driving an open-air buggy over dirt roads, through rocky terrain, and stopping at natural pools, caves, and quiet beaches like Baby Beach. It's not a luxury experience — you'll get dusty, possibly wet, and the ride is loud and jarring. The group size is usually small, and most tours include a guide who points out sights and keeps you from getting stuck. It's genuinely adventurous without being extreme, but not ideal if you have back problems or hate rough rides.

The best time is January to April when it's dry and the trails aren't muddy. Rainy season (October–December) can make some paths slippery and less enjoyable. Expect to pay around $90–$180 per person for a standard half-day tour; private or longer outings for two people run $300–$450. Fuel, basic insurance, and water are usually included.

Tip: Choose the version that visits the Natural Pool and caves — that's the highlight. Skip the ones that add too many souvenir stops or beach time; the real value is in the driving and scenery. Wear closed shoes, bring a bandana for dust, and don't overpay for so-called VIP buggies — the standard ones are fine.
