Wreck Diving in Aruba: What to Know

Aruba’s wreck diving is straightforward and rewarding. The main attraction is the Antilla, a large WWII German freighter lying on its side in 50–60 ft of water. Visibility is usually 60–100 ft, currents are mild, and the wreck is broken open enough that you can swim through sections without feeling trapped. You’ll see lots of corals, sponges, and schools of fish, plus the occasional turtle or ray. Most trips are shore-accessible or a very short boat ride; a two-tank morning dive usually gets you on the wreck and one other site. It’s suitable for advanced open-water divers and above—nitrox helps extend bottom time.

Best time is January through August when seas are calmest and visibility is best. Avoid September–December if you can; that’s when swells and rain can stir up the water. Expect to pay around $90–$150 for a two-tank wreck dive including gear and guide. Adding a Seabob tour bumps the price but lets you zip around the wreck and surface between dives without much effort.

Tip: Book the standard scuba wreck dive first—it’s the most rewarding. Skip the crowded afternoon Seabob-only trips unless you really want the toy; they’re fun but you spend more time playing than actually exploring the wreck. Bring your own computer and stay hydrated; the sun is intense even on breezy days.
