Deep Sea Fishing in Aruba: Worth It?

Expect a full day on a 30-40 ft boat bouncing over deep blue water 10-20 miles offshore. Catches commonly include mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna, and occasional sailfish or marlin. The ride out can be choppy; once lines are in, it’s a mix of waiting, sudden action, and lots of sun. Most trips run 4-8 hours and include basic tackle, cooler with drinks, and crew who handle bait and filleting. It’s genuinely fun if you like fishing, but can feel long and repetitive if seas are rough or fish are uncooperative.

Best time is April through October when seas are calmer and pelagic fish are more active; December-February can be windier with bigger swells. Expect to pay around $800–$1,600 for a half-day private charter for up to 6 people; shared trips or shorter outings start closer to $150–$250 per person. Larger groups or full-day big-game pursuits push toward the higher end.

Pick a half-day trip first unless you’re serious about big pelagics; it’s enough time to get the experience without committing a whole vacation day. Skip the cheapest bottom-fishing options if you specifically want deep-sea trolling—those are different trips. Bring motion-sickness meds even if you think you don’t need them; the offshore swell is real.
