The cable car whisks you up from just outside the Old Town walls to the top of Mount Srđ in about four minutes. At the summit you get sweeping 360° views over the red rooftops, the city walls, Lokrum island, and the Adriatic. Expect crowds at the viewpoint terrace, a café, and a small museum about the 1990s siege. The ride itself is smooth but not especially long; most people spend 30–90 minutes up top before heading back down. It’s a quick, comfortable way to see the city from above without hiking the steep trail.
Best time is late afternoon or just before sunset from May to early October when the light is warm and the islands stand out. Avoid midday in summer – it gets hot and the views can haze over. Expect to pay around $30–45 for a basic round-trip adult ticket; combination tickets with a walking tour or sunset slot push it toward $90–170 per person. Kids are cheaper.
Honest tip: just buy the plain round-trip ticket and walk the short loop at the top yourself – the guided tours add cost without much extra value. Skip it entirely if you’re on a tight budget or afraid of heights; the views from the city walls are already excellent and far cheaper.
