Expect a solid 45-60 minute visit inside one of Dublin's most historic churches. The building itself is impressive: soaring Gothic arches, worn medieval floor tiles, and the famous mummified cat and rat in a glass case. The self-guided audio tour walks you through the crypt, explains the Viking history underneath, and points out the bridge that links to Dublinia. It's calm, informative, and never rushed. Services are free if you just want to sit in for Evensong, but the paid tour gives context most visitors need to appreciate what they're seeing.
Best time is spring or autumn on a weekday morning; you'll avoid both summer crowds and winter gloom. Expect to pay around €10-15 per adult for the standard self-guided ticket including audio; family tickets and concessions bring it down a bit. Skip the add-on roof tour unless you're very into architecture; the views aren't dramatically better than other spots in the city and it eats extra time.
One honest tip: pair it with nearby St Patrick's if you're doing the full cathedral circuit, but only do both on the same day if your legs are up for it. Otherwise just do Christ Church; it's the more atmospheric of the two and the crypt alone is worth the price of entry.
