Cliffs of Moher Day Tour from Dublin: Worth It?

A full day trip from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher is a long haul — roughly 4 hours each way on the bus. You’ll spend more time traveling than at the cliffs themselves, but many people still find it worthwhile if it’s their only chance to see Ireland’s west coast. Expect dramatic sheer cliffs dropping into the Atlantic, strong winds, and crowds at the main viewpoints. Most tours also stop in the Burren (a strange rocky landscape) and sometimes swing through Galway for a quick lunch or wander. It’s a solid greatest-hits package, but it’s not relaxed or immersive.

The best time to go is May or September — decent weather odds, fewer crowds than July and August, and the days are still long. Expect to pay around $90–$130 per person for a standard coach tour that includes transport and an optional guide. Private tours or smaller groups push $300+ easily. Book at least a few days ahead in summer.

Tip: Choose the tour that includes both the Cliffs and the Burren but skips Galway if you want more time at the cliffs; the city stop often feels rushed and tacked-on. Bring a decent waterproof jacket and binoculars — the wind and rain can hit hard, and you’ll want to scan the ledges for puffins in spring and early summer.
