Renting a bike on the Cinta Costera is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to see Panama City’s waterfront. The path runs for several kilometers with decent views of the skyline, the bay, and the old city walls. On regular days you share the path with joggers, skaters, and locals, so it feels lively but not chaotic. The Sunday morning ciclovía is noticeably better — the road is closed to cars until noon, giving you far more space and a safer, more relaxed ride. Expect the ride itself to be mostly flat and easy, though it can get hot and humid quickly. Bring water and sunscreen; shade is limited in places.
Expect to pay around $8–15 for a basic hourly rental or $20–35 for a half-day. Guided small-group tours typically run higher but include a bike, helmet, and someone pointing out sights. Best time to go is the dry season (December to April) when rain is less likely to cut your ride short. Honest tip: skip the guided tours unless you really want narration — the route is straightforward and you can easily do it on your own. Do rent a decent bike with working brakes; the cheapest options are often in poor condition and not worth the small savings. Go early in the morning before the sun gets brutal.
