Dahshur gives you the Red and Bent Pyramids in a peaceful desert setting with almost no crowds compared to Giza. Expect a half-day trip that usually bundles in Saqqara and Memphis. The site feels more like an open-air archaeological park than a tourist circus. You'll walk around well-preserved 4th-dynasty structures, see the first true pyramid ever built, and get decent views across the desert. It's genuinely pleasant in the early morning when the light is soft and the temperature is still bearable.
Best time to go is October to April; summers are brutally hot and the site has almost zero shade. Expect to pay around $60–110 per person for a private car, driver, and guide depending on group size and whether lunch is included. Shared tours can dip lower but you'll lose flexibility. One honest tip: skip Memphis entirely if your time is limited; it's mostly rubble and a giant statue in a warehouse. Focus on Dahshur and Saqqara instead. Another tip: wear proper shoes, bring water, and don't be afraid to walk a bit further to the Black Pyramid if your guide offers; it's worth the extra steps for the scale.
