De Palm Island in Aruba: Worth It?

A day at De Palm Island is basically a floating water park a short boat ride from Aruba. Expect a man-made beach, multiple waterslides, snorkeling in a small reef area, banana boat rides, and open-bar drinks once you're there. It's loud, busy, and geared toward families and groups who want easy entertainment rather than quiet nature. The boat trip over takes about 15-20 minutes; once on the island you'll have a few hours to rotate between slides, snorkel gear, and lunch. It's fun if you like that sort of thing, but it won't feel like "real" Aruba.

Best time is January through April when seas are calmest and crowds are manageable. Avoid going during July-August if you dislike heat and packed boats. Expect to pay around $110–$160 per adult for a full-day package that includes transport, lunch, drinks, and most activities; kids are less. Snorkeling here is average at best—lots of fish but the reef is small and heavily visited.

Tip: book the morning boat so you arrive early and get first crack at the slides before the afternoon rush. Skip the optional jet ski or parasailing add-ons unless you have money to burn; the included stuff is plenty for most people. If your trip is only 4-5 days, many travelers find better value just hitting Palm Beach or renting a car instead.
