Should You Take a Deep Dish Pizza Class in Chicago?

A deep dish pizza-making class lasts about three hours and walks you through dough, sauce, a mountain of cheese, and the tricky bake. You'll make one (or share one) in a group of 8-15 people, then eat what you cooked alongside a couple of slices from the restaurant's regular menu. Expect a casual, hands-on setup in a working pizzeria kitchen: noisy, warm, and smelling like garlic and melted mozzarella. It's genuinely fun if you like cooking demos, but it's not a quiet intimate lesson.

Go in late fall through early spring when it's cold and fewer tourists crowd the kitchens. Summer is hotter, busier, and harder to get spots. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person including the food and beer or soft drink. Book ahead, especially on weekends.

Pick a class that actually lets you build your own pie rather than just watch; the hands-on part is the reason to do it. Skip the giant combo tours that tack on a walking food tour or multiple other stops — they're rushed and you'll be full long before the deep dish even hits the table. Wear clothes you don't mind getting flour on.
