Willis Tower Skydeck: Worth It?

The Skydeck sits on the 103rd floor of Willis Tower and gives you 360-degree views stretching up to 50 miles on clear days. Expect a decent-sized museum area on the lower level with photos and history, then an elevator ride up. The main draw is The Ledge — those glass boxes that stick out from the building so you can look straight down. It gets crowded; you'll share the space with plenty of selfie-takers and families. On a clear day the view is genuinely impressive. On a cloudy or hazy one it's a lot less exciting for the price. The whole visit usually takes 45-90 minutes depending on lines and how long you linger.

Expect to pay around $40-55 per adult for a standard timed ticket. Summer is peak season with long waits; spring and fall offer a better balance of weather and crowds. Winter can be brutally cold on the exposed observation level but lines are shortest. Book a few days ahead if your schedule is fixed.

Smart move: go early in the morning or near sunset if the forecast is clear. Skip the overpriced photo packages they try to sell you on the way out — your phone works fine. If you're afraid of heights or it's a gray day, you can comfortably skip it and get similar (free) views from other spots around the city.
