Is the Willis Tower Skydeck Worth It?

The Skydeck sits on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower and gives you 360-degree views stretching up to 50 miles on clear days, sometimes reaching four states. Expect a bit of a wait for security and elevators, then a straightforward indoor observation area with huge windows plus the glass ledges that stick out so you can look straight down. It's genuinely impressive on a clear day but can feel crowded and slightly overhyped if visibility is poor or you're short on time. The whole visit usually takes 45-90 minutes depending on lines.

Go in late spring through early fall for the best chance of clear skies; early morning or right before closing tends to be less packed than midday. Expect to pay around $35-55 per adult depending on whether you buy standard tickets, add the photo package, or get a timed reservation to skip some lines. Kids are cheaper, around $25-35.

Pick the glass ledges if you're into that thrill; they're the main reason most people come. Skip the overpriced snacks and gift shop unless you really want a souvenir. If you're afraid of heights or the weather forecast is bad, save your money for street-level views or other Chicago towers.
