Expect a full day on a 40–60 ft boat heading 15–25 miles offshore into deep blue water. You’ll troll for marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, and dorado. The crew handles heavy tackle, bait, and most of the work; you get to fight the fish. It’s a mix of long periods of waiting, sudden chaos when something hits, and genuine satisfaction when a decent fish comes aboard. Seas can get choppy, so if you get motion sickness, medicate early. Most trips run 7–8 hours including travel time.
Best time is October to April when the Indian Ocean is warmer and billfish are more active. June–August is cooler and windier, with fewer strikes but sometimes bigger tuna. Expect to pay around $800–$1,400 for a half-day private charter (4–6 anglers) and $1,200–$2,000 for a full day, depending on boat size and included extras like lunch and tackle. Shared trips are cheaper per person but less flexible.
Tip: book a half-day first if you’re new to offshore fishing; it’s enough to know whether you love it. Skip the cheapest operators – they often use poorly maintained boats and low-quality tackle. Bring your own polarized sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, and motion-sickness meds. Everything else is supplied.
