A camel ride from Marrakesh usually means a 30- to 90-minute trip in the Agafay desert or the palm groves just outside the city. Don’t expect the vast Sahara dunes you see in photos; this is rocky, lunar-looking terrain with some hills and sparse vegetation. You’ll sway along on a calm (sometimes grumpy) camel while the guide leads you, stop for photos at sunset if timed right, and maybe finish with mint tea. It’s short, touristy, and can feel a bit staged, but many people still enjoy the novelty and the views, especially at golden hour. Quad bikes often run alongside or are offered as an add-on.

Best time is October to April when it’s not brutally hot. Summer rides are possible but exhausting in 40°C+ heat. Expect to pay around $25–55 per person for a basic camel ride with pickup; packages that add quad biking, dinner, and a show usually run $35–80. Longer Sahara trips are a completely different (and much more expensive) commitment.

Pick a small-group sunset ride if you want decent photos and fewer crowds. Skip anything that promises a “private luxury desert camp” for one hour — it’s almost always just a tent with tea.
