Dune bashing is exactly what it sounds like: tearing up and down steep red sand dunes in a 4x4 with a professional driver. Expect 30-60 minutes of actual off-roading that feels like a rollercoaster — lots of sudden drops, climbs, and sideways slides. After that, most tours head to a desert camp for sandboarding, camel rides, henna, shisha, and a buffet dinner under the stars. It’s touristy but genuinely fun if you like adrenaline. The drive from Dubai takes about 45-60 minutes each way. It can get very dusty; sunglasses and a scarf or buff are useful.

The best time is November to March when it’s cooler. Summer dune bashing is brutal — 40°C+ even at night and the sand is softer, making the ride less sharp. Expect to pay around $80-150 per person for a standard evening tour including dinner and basic activities. Morning tours with quad bikes or shorter bashing are usually cheaper. Luxury private tours with better vehicles, smaller groups, and upgraded camps can easily hit $200-350.
