Is Diving from Manila Worth It?

Most Manila diving is actually a full-day trip to Anilao in Batangas, about 2.5 hours south. You’ll do two dives, usually on coral slopes and walls with decent marine life — think turtles, schools of fish, occasional reef sharks, and macro critters if you’re into that. Visibility is often good (15-25m), though it varies with weather and season. The boat rides are short, the pace is relaxed, and you’re back in Manila by evening. It’s not world-class like Palawan or Dumaguete, but it’s the most practical option if your time in the capital is limited.

Best time is December to May when the water is calmer and visibility is usually better. June to November is the rainy season with rougher seas and more plankton, which can drop visibility but sometimes brings in whale sharks. Expect to pay around $120–$180 per person for a full-day trip including transport, two boat dives, guide, basic equipment, and lunch. Add-ons like nitrox or extra gear push it higher.

Tip: Choose a small-group trip if you can — it’s more comfortable and the guide actually has time for you. Skip trying to squeeze in three dives in one day from Manila; you’ll be exhausted and the surface intervals get rushed.
