The trip is a full-day affair (12–14 hours door-to-door from Manila). You’ll ride a narrow wooden banca boat upriver through a dramatic gorge with towering limestone cliffs and thick jungle on both sides. Two local boatmen paddle and push you through rapids for about 45–60 minutes each way. At the end you reach the falls, where most people swim in the pool or take the optional bamboo raft that goes right under the crashing water. The ride back downstream is fast and fun as they shoot the rapids. It’s physically impressive and the scenery is genuinely beautiful, but it’s also touristy, loud with other boats, and the final “shower” under the falls feels more like a theme-park finale than a serene nature moment.
Best time is December to May (dry season). The river has enough water for the trip but isn’t dangerously high, and you’re far less likely to get rained out. Expect to pay around $220–$380 per person from Manila depending on whether you go private or join a small group; private is noticeably better because you set the pace and avoid crowds. Skip the overpriced “VIP” packages with lunch at fancy resorts — just get the basic boat trip and eat where the boatmen eat. One solid tip: wear water shoes or sandals with good grip; the rocks at the falls are slippery as hell and you’ll be climbing in and out of the boat multiple times.
